Daddy Deutsch
It's been a VERY eventful first week for Dad.
The 4 days in London were fantastic. Walked about 5 miles a day and took the tube probably about 20. We were able to see everything that we wanted to. Dad was very happy. He was constantly commenting on how alive and vibrant the city was and how it reminded him of Detroit in the 40's and 50's. We hit nearly every pub we saw for a pint and some grub.
Our hotel was perfect right on the Thames. We woke up to Big Ben every morning as it was across from the room. We were able to wave at the people in the London Eye ferris wheel whizzing by our room. The Marriott County Hall is the name, stay there if you want an experience and a perfect location to sightsee.
This week, I have had to travel a little so Dad has been left alone to recharge and just do some exploring on his own around Wiesbaden. So far he has navigated the bank as well as a restaurant all with my German - English cheat sheet I put together for him. We walked into the city for dinner on Tuesday and went to the Irish Pub for Karaoke night. Haven't heard him laugh that hard in a while.
Off to Belgium and France tomorrow for a mini WWII tour. Baden Baden next week and then the motherload of weekends. Tim (my brother) gets here Friday along with cousins Derek and Ken Cleary and three of their buddies who are here for the World Cup. That is also the day that the World Cup starts (Germany plays at 6pm Central European Time) and the biggest festival of the year in Wiesbaden begins that day as well!
Wish more of you were here. This country is going MAD right now. We will have a 30 foot screen set up in the Park behind our house to show EVERY game during the Cup. I think I am actually getting into Soccer a little bit. I got a German Flag Scarf yesterday for filling my car up (72 Euros - about 90 USD so stop complaining...)but will remain faithful to my homeland if somehow they end up head to head.
